In the UK, a standard Category B (car) driving licence is all you need to drive a Tuk Tuk. No special training, no additional categories. Tuk Tuks are fully road-legal in the UK and can be driven on all public roads including A-roads and dual carriageways. They are not permitted on motorways. Urban streets, town centres, and event sites are where they truly shine.
Yes. Like any road vehicle in the UK, your Tuk Tuk will require an annual MOT once it reaches three years old. We help guide you through the process and can recommend approved test centres familiar with three-wheelers.

Insurance & Vehicle Road Tax
Yes, absolutely. Tuk Tuks are insurable in the UK as three-wheeled motor vehicles. There are specialist insurers who cover them, and we can point you in the right direction. Policies are available for private use, commercial hire, food & beverage trading, and events work.
Insurance costs vary depending on your intended use, driving history, and the insurer. Commercial policies, for example for food traders or event hire, tend to be slightly higher than private-use cover. We recommend getting quotes from specialist three-wheeler or classic vehicle insurers for the best rates.
The Vehicle
Our Tuk Tuks are fitted with a 230cc single-cylinder engine that's reliable, efficient, and perfectly sized for urban environments. It's enough to keep up with city traffic while being economical to run.
Standard petrol. No specialist fuel, no adapters. Just fill up at any forecourt like you would a scooter or small car.
Tuk Tuks are classified as three-wheeled motor tricycle (L5e category under European type approval). In the UK they are treated similarly to motorcycles with a sidecar for registration and licensing purposes, and taxed as a light three-wheeler.
Our Tuk Tuks have a top speed of approximately 35–40 mph, making them perfectly capable on A-roads and dual carriageways. They're designed for urban and semi-urban use, not motorway cruising, which is exactly where they're at their best.
The rear passenger area comfortably seats 2–3 adults depending on configuration (plus one driver). Commercial and custom builds can be adapted for different uses, including open-sided food stalls, branded display units, or custom interiors for tourist hire.

Buying & Ownership
Yes. All Tuk Tuks sold through The Tuk Society come with a warranty covering mechanical components. Full details are provided at the point of purchase and vary by model and use type.
